A case report of self-medication with over-the-counter fish antibiotic: Implications for pharmacists
Self-treatment with nonprescription pet antibiotics is a potential source of inappropriate antibiotic use, a threat to antibiotic stewardship efforts, and a hindrance to effective infection treatment. Increased pharmacovigilance is needed from pharmacists and other health care providers to screen patients for nonprescription antibiotic use to better promote drug safety. Pharmacists have a sizeable opportunity to provide education and promote proper antibiotic use for their patients.
